These gorgeous chillies did not come from our CSA distributor Amelishof, but I harvested them myself — on our balcony! You might remember I swapped a head of endive for a couple of red hot pepper saplings in May. That was a good deal! I throw these buggers in almost any dish, but they keep on coming. I’m thinking of making sambal… :)
And here’s the picture of this week’s CSA loot.
- red bell pepper
- hokkaido pumpkin
- chicory (curly leaf endive or frisée)
- red leaf lettuce
- carrots
- shallots (yay!)
Menu plan with these (& last week’s) vegetables
- Courgette omelet with fresh basil, pasta salade with pesto and tomatoes
[Wednesday] New recipe from ‘Vega Gerechten’ cookbook. - Roasted beet salad, cabbage dish with leek & mustard seeds, potato mash
Have made these recipes from ‘Vega Gerechten’ cookbook before. - Chinese take-away [Saturday: read-a-thon]
- Indian night: Gujarati carrot salad with fresh mint, lime and mustard seeds, basmati rice, Diu corn curry
Trying out new recipes from World Food Café Global Vegetarian Cooking. - Endive-potato mash with blue cheese & cashews
Easy all-time favourite. - Basil spaghetti with sauce of soy cream, mushrooms, leek, sun-dried tomatoes, bell pepper & pinenuts, accompanied by tomato-rocket salad.
Will just make it up while cooking. - And… (drum roll) carrot cake!!! I had it for a treat during the read-a-thon and it was Very Good. The recipe came from a magazine cut-out I had been wanting to try — hope to post it soon!
I have nothing planned yet for my pie pumpkin. That’s because I want to make something special out of it for the Kookgrrls’ October theme! During the read-a-thon someone mentioned pumpkin pancakes… Yum! And tanabata from In Spring it is the Dawn was eating pumpkin bagels for breakfast.
I did have a really nice Halloween cookies recipe but strangely enough it has disappeared from earth (& cyberspace). Sigh. Maybe one of the other grrls will put up a pumpkin recipe that I can try! :)
Or do you have a nice suggestion for a veggie pumpkin recipe?

I have chili pepper envy. My peppers are very slow this year. They’re just starting to produce and the season is nearly over. -sigh-
How fun to get a pumpkin in your CSA. There are all kinds of yummy things you can do with that. Speaking of yummy, your menu plan sounds splendid and that carrot cake wouldn’t last more than 24 hours around me. YUM.
Thanks for joining Midnight Maniac Meatless Mondays!

Congrats on your chiles. I’ve been meaning to get some plants started in pots in my backyard. I’ll be posting the black bean burger and lentil-cheese loaf recipes in the coming weeks on Meatless Monday.

P.S. My sister adds pumpkin puree to her whole wheat waffle batter.

Wow, those chilis are gorgeous. In reading your recipe I was reminded on my pecan pumpkin spice waffles. I think you would love them :-)

Your little red hot chillies will be delightfully intense. Enjoy. I have yet to harvest mine, grown on my windowsill too.

There’s that dish again, and it looks great with those red chillies. Today I went out and cut a few bunchs of grapes from my vine. It’s the first harvest, so it’s all exciting. We also had some pears too. I’m going to post them! lol.
Oh, and I want some of that carrot cake.

Thank you all for stopping by! I’m really sorry that I took so long in replying :(
@Gavin: I will post the recipe!
@Rebecca Jean: Sorry to hear your peppers are so late! But better late than never, right? :\ I love pumpkin but wanted to do something differently this time. Made pumpkin cookies!
@Betsie: Thanks for the pumpkin tip! Making waffles is not a usual thing here in Holland… but I’ll keep it in mind! I’ll also be looking forward to your recipes — haven’t checked out this weeks post yet… ;)
@Angie: Yay, pecan pumpkin spice waffles sound delish too! I guess I will have to learn how to make waffles!
@mangocheeks: Yay, another window sill farmer! :)) Will be looking out for pics of your harvest.
@zee: Yeah, that dish is a favourite! Brought it all the way from Turkey on a plane so you’ll understand how happy we are that it arrived unscathed. It’s one of our most precious items! But erm.. I have been waiting for pics of your grapes/pears in vain?
