Yay for VeganMoFo! Not only did my readers suggest wonderful pear desserts, one of them ‘clicked’ with a recipe I’d just come across at one of my fellow MoFo-ers, Have Cake, Will Travel!
Here’s the pear with chocolate syrup and sliced almonds I had for afters last night. It was awesome!
It would have been lovely on a pear tarte tatin as well. ;) But that was too much work for a Friday night.
I made 1/3 of the original recipe -which is SUPER easy- and still have plenty left to experiment with this week. Ideas: chocolate milk, banana split adaptation, fruit or (speculoos) cookies dipped in chocolate, chocolate soygurt… I can go on and on! ;) A new favourite for sure. Try it!

I’m glad you love the syrup as well! I really like the chocolate & pear combination, and your other ideas sound lovely too (especially the banana split!).

That looks heavenly and pears are a nice break from all the apples we’ve been eating lately.

I’ve been thinking of a pear dessert for days! This is great! I have about a dozen pears from my co-op that no one in my family is eating raw out of hand. I’ve been trying to come up with a way to get everyone eating them and I must confess chocolate did cross my mind.. ;)

I love pears and chocolate! Are the pears cooked or raw? My grandma makes awesome poached pears which she then puts in chocolate pudding. Heavenly!

MMMMM that sounds great too! I thought of poaching pears but these were pretty ripe so we had them raw.

I so want to try this! But the recipe requires a special type of sugar. Which type did you use? :)

I love basing desserts on fruit, it makes me feel so self-righteous :-) And if the dessert is based on fruit then it doesn’t matter if I smother it in chocolate, it’s still super-healthy. Right? ;-)

Great combo of flavors. I make a chocolate pear cake sometimes and I love that blend. You take nice photos.
