Bento #30 came to work on Monday October 29th and was filled with leftovers from Sunday’s mahjong date (which I won btw :)

Bento #30

On the left: veggies (cauliflower florets, radishes and carrots), fresh basil leafs, laughing cow cheese wedge and hiding underneath is a container with homemade salsa picante.

Right tier: plain nacho crumbs, little plum tomatoes, mixed nuts and edamame.

On the side some pear and kiwi sprinkled with lemon.

It was very yummy ;) A pity that the weather was grey because now my picture turned out kind of bleak as well :(

Also posted in the LiveJournal Bentolunch community for details. Alongside several Halloween bento’s because of the date… That’s not a really big festivity in Holland though.

Bento #29

So here’s the bento I took yesterday on my first day back to work. I tried to extend my holiday spirit by taking tabbouleh salad, fresh mint for tea and a mix of nuts that came all the way from Cappadocia in Turkey: roasted chick peas, apricot seeds and almonds coated in honey and sesame seeds. Yummy! I also added some dried cranberries.

But I took some other stuff as well: a La vache qui rit cheese wedge, cherry tomatoes, Japanese peas and kiwi (peeled and sliced in the morning) with some lemon juice on the side.

Another way of keeping my holiday near is reading Dance with Death by Barbara Nadel. It’s a thriller set in Cappadocia and I bought it on site ;) Thankfully we didn’t find any dead bodies in the caves we visited!

Première Bento #1
I’m a bit slow in blogging but two weeks ago I made my first real bento to bring along on a 16 km hiking trip in the south of Holland (NS route Maas-/Swalmdal from Reuver to Swalmen, near Roermond). It was a picnic for two so it didn’t fit all in one box, but that’s OK, right?

What was in it?

  • egg-filled tomato with pine nuts
  • hummus and small crackers
  • cherry tomatoes
  • cashew nuts
  • La vache qui rit cheese wedge
  • puff pastry with paprika curry
  • cherries (on the side)

Now I have to figure out which bento group to subscribe to… There are so many of them! Vegan Bento for example (but I am a vegetarian and not vegan so I’d have to take care which bento’s to post) or Lunchbox Recipes at Flickr. I’ll have to study them all and decide… Poor me ;)

BTW hiking was great as well: quite a varied landscape (& weather ;) It might be a nice trip to make with the Wandelgrrls some day.
