I couldn’t wait to use my new, super tiny bento so on Saturday I filled it up with snacks for our hike with @Petra_Utrecht and R. in the Betuwe; a district famous for its fruit production, surrounding the Linge stream, that is very popular at this time of year because of the blossoms. Last week I went to explore another part of the area with the Wandelgrrls.
Unfortunately we didn’t get to eat the ‘ieniemienie snack bento’ till we were home, so Petra & R. never even saw it! :(
‘Ienieniemie’ is Dutch slang for Súper Tiny ;)
Contents: fresh date, dried fruits (cranberries & apricot) and cinnamon coated almonds. The nuts were store-bought (organic) and not really cheap, so I may try my hand at making them myself, tweaking the recipe of sweet ’n spicy nuts I’ve posted before.
Every once in a while when we go hiking, we get to see something marvellous. This time it was an occupied stork’s nest, with adult & baby! You’ll have to look closely, but the picture is proof!
Have you been going out, enjoying the wonderful spring weather?

What a shame, we missed the Bento! And I’ve never seen a real Bento. I guess now we need to set a date for the next hike .-)

oooh how cute you actually used it.
I think I have eaten dates once in a lifetime, filled with cream cheese. They tasted good then. I might try them again :)

I think the new bento box is ideal for what you used it for. You should have proudly shown it off to your friends though!
We had a short walk (5km) and a long, long cycle ride (55 km) on Sunday and Monday. It was lovely weather and the areas we came through (Zeist, Austerlitz) were beautiful.

Thank you all!
@Petra: yeah, so stupid of me! But we all had so many sandwiches to eat… Should have pulled out the snack bento on the train ride back instead of the cookies! :\
@Uniflame: they’re good with cream cheese! Of course now I need to find a good vegan substitute for that ;)
@Leeswammes: I saw your tweet about the bike ride – VERY impressive! Don’t you think our country is at one of its loveliest times right now?

Yes, it’s really beautiful at the moment. But also, there are so many small villages with interesting farm houses and the nature around is so much more special than I knew. It’s only a 45 mins. to 1 hour ride from our house and then we’re in such a lovely country side. I didn’t really know that until this weekend.

You (and Els?) seem to do a lot of walking lately :) Well, good for you! With such wonderful weather out, I am kicking myself for not getting out more! ;)
That is indeed a teeny bento, perfect for a little snack :D I don’t think I’ve seen cinnamon coated almonds before, but I can imagine them being expensive.
